NFL injury report Week 3: Jordan Love questionable, Joe Mixon, George Kittle and AJ Brown ruled out

The New York Jets started Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season with a 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

Going into Week 3, there are still nine winless teams, including the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, and nine undefeated teams. Will that change after this week? Some notable injuries around the league may play a role.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback was back at practice on Wednesday nearly two weeks after he sprained his MCL in Green Bay’s season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It was reported that Lerato was expected to miss 3-6 weeks. He participated in non-contact drills with head coach Matt LaFleur saying they will wait and see how Love progresses over the next few days.

“We’re going to leave him until the game starts, 90 minutes,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur noted on Friday that Love will be on the questionable list for Sunday.

Sean Clifford has been promoted to the practice squad and will also back up Malik Willis if Love is unable to attend.

While running back Christian McCaffrey and receiver Deebo Samuel are out, the San Francisco 49ers will be without tight end George Kittle due to a hamstring strain. Kittle is the latest loss in the 49ers’ game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward also sat out practice because of hamstring and knee problems and was listed on San Francisco’s injury report. Ward has not missed a game since joining the 49ers in 2023.

Houston running back Joe Mixon exited Sunday’s game against Minnesota 2-0 after injuring his ankle in Week 2 against Chicago on what he called a hip-drop play that should have been a hit. Mixon did not practice this week, according to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime.

On Saturday, the NFL announced that Bears linebacker TJ Edwards was fined $16,883 for the hip-drop tackle on Mixon.

A lingering injury has kept Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III off the roster. He missed their Week 2 win over the Patriots and his status for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins remains in question.

Zach Charbonnet, who ran for 38 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown, would be in line to start again if Walker can’t go.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown is officially ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, according to the Eagles’ injury report released Friday. Brown told ESPN’s Lisa Salters on Monday that he expects to miss “a couple of weeks” with a hamstring injury.

Initially on Friday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wasn’t ready to rule Brown out for the game, even though the receiver was out of practice this week.

“We have time. We will see how today goes,” Sirianni said Friday. “We have today, we have a little bit of tomorrow, and of course, Sunday before we have to make that decision.”

However, Philadelphia opted to rest the 27-year-old receiver later in the day.

Brown made his first appearance on the Eagles’ injury report last Friday after straining his hamstring. He then missed Saturday’s practice, and the team officially ruled him out of Monday night’s game at Philadelphia on Sunday.

Quarterback Russell Wilson will likely miss his third consecutive game. He is listed as questionable on the Steelers injury report with a calf injury. Justin Fields is ready to start in his place again.

Fields completed 70% of his passes (30-of-43) for 273 yards and a touchdown, helping Pittsburgh to a 2-0 start. He also rushed for 84 yards on 22 carries.
