Buffalo Bills, Sabers Partner with Buffalo Museum of Science for New Exhibit | Buffalo Sabres

Today the Buffalo Museum of Science (BMS), the Buffalo Bills, and the Buffalo Sabers announced a new partnership and unveiled plans for a new sports-focused science exhibit. The exhibition, which will focus on the science of sports, is expected to open at the Museum in autumn 2025. Interactive exhibits will highlight the physics, health of sports, technology and the culture of fandom.

“There are many aspects of science in sports. From statistics to materials technology, medicine, and even the impact of social science on supporters and the experience of athletes, the exhibition will put the scientific aspects of sports that cannot be easily noticed at the forefront of the exhibition experience, said BMS President and CEO Gary Siddall.

Some of the featured experiences include a “Shout” room to measure the decibel level of fan excitement, a media desk for visitors to interpret game statistics, and a display of your design mascot. BMS teased that the custom, custom-made Buffalo handle that BMS describes as a process of checking arcs, accuracy and speed, will give an undeniable impression of the popular tradition of Buffalo Bills.

Siddall added that sports and athletics highlights will go beyond football and hockey and will also include adaptive sports. The Bills and Sabers partnership is the first of many collaborations expected to shape the exhibit and accompanying programs, including player meet-and-greets with museum visitors.

BMS is working with the well-known Ohio company Roto to design the display. Museum officials have shared a rendering that provides a clear view of the exhibit’s entrance, showing the original jumbotron and the elaborate design with the name of Buffalo’s home team.

BMS reports that 27 percent of the total budget of $2.8 million to develop and install the exhibit has been raised so far, including a commitment from the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences and a $200,000 grant. planned project from Empire State Development.

The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers organizations provide BMS with their property and image licenses for exhibition design and marketing. Club representatives said they are excited to partner with another Buffalo cultural institution to reinforce the value of STEM education and highlight its importance outside the classroom.

The new exhibit will be the first of the museum’s permanent exhibits to be completely renovated since the Buffalo in Space exhibit opened in 2018. The new experience will replace the Museum of Life Sciences’ former beauty, Explore YOU, opened in 2012.

Siddall, who joined the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences in February, shared the museum is looking at this new experience as a catalyst to begin the development of a major exhibition plan to renew all the permanent experiences of museum. “Science is always changing, and so should the Buffalo Museum of Science experience.”
